How to add table of contents in OpenOffice Writer

For every heading you want to appear on the table of contents, each must belong to one of the three paragraph styles; Heading 1, Heading 2 or Heading 3.

Figure 1 shows you what each heading looks like.


Step 1. Make paragraph heading

Put pointer on the paragraph, then go to

Format → Styles and Formatting

On the dialog box select Heading 1. You will observe the font change. But of course you can style it how ever you want it to appear.

Step 3. Insert table of contents

Place your pointer where you want the table to appear, then:

Insert → Indexes and Tables → Indexes and Tables...

Click Ok


You should see the table of content appear now.
